Putnam City Schools Takes Bold Steps Forward in School Safety with Cutting Edge Technology and Unified Emergency Response Protocols
Putnam City Schools is excited to start the new school year on Wednesday with major safety upgrades designed to protect students, staff, and visitors. The District has partnered with ZeroEyes, a state-of-the-art AI gun detection software that uses existing cameras in the District to automatically detect and alert authorities 24/7/365 if a gun is brandished. Putnam City Schools is the first and only large school district in Oklahoma to adopt this technology. The addition of ZeroEyes is part of the District’s ongoing school safety initiative and was funded through the passage of the 2025 Innovation Bond.
Additionally, this year Putnam City accomplished a major District goal by completing installation of advanced weapon detection systems in every school. Following installation at middle and high schools in the last two years, the final phase was completed with new systems in all elementary schools this summer. This milestone was made possible through the passage of the 2025 Innovation Bond by District voters, reflecting the community’s shared commitment to school safety.
Putnam City Schools has also adopted the I Love U Guys Foundation Standard Response Protocol for crisis response and communication. This nationally recognized framework provides a clear, shared language for emergency response among students, staff, families, and first responders, ensuring a faster and more coordinated reaction during any type of emergency. This Standard Response Protocol will be used by all schools throughout the District. Further, Putnam City families will also see a difference in how crisis situations are communicated through the utilization of the I Love U Guys clear and efficient methods.
Putnam City Schools is proud to begin the year with a stronger than ever safety net in place for every member of our community. The combined use of proactive detection technology and a unified emergency response system represents a significant step forward in keeping schools secure and creating an environment where students can focus on learning.
